Initial Philmont Meeting for 2011 Trip

Note Revised Time Below!

In preparation for Philmont 2011, we will be having our FIRST meeting on Sunday, May 23 at 5:30 pm at the Scout room! If you are not signed up but are interested AND eligible, please come to the meeting! (To be eligible, you must be 14 years old and a First Class Scout by July 20, 2011)

It is EXTREMELY important that everyone attend, as we will be discussing our plans and handing out the schedule for all of next year leading up to our trip to PHILMONT! I encourage the parents of Scouts to come to this meeting to find out what to expect and hear the plans for next year. Plus, we will be making an email list so we don’t bother everyone in the troop all year! (Note to Scouts: this means that if both your mother and your father want to get all the emails, have them both come and bring their email addresses).

I realize that this may be a little short notice, but is really important that we meet before everyone scatters for the summer. If you absolutely cannot attend (say you have had a trip to Antarctica planned for 6 months), let me know ASAP! Otherwise, please make every effort to come since there is important information you will want to hear.

The good news–we will not be collecting any money at this meeting.

Parents or Scouts–feel free to email me or call if questions.

See you all on SUNDAY MAY 23rd, 5:30 PM

May Outing

On Friday, May 14 we’ll me meeting at the Church (time to be determined) for a weekend of backpacking on the Symmes Creek Trail in Wayne National Forest.

We’ll be returning on Sunday May 16. Because we’ll be hiking some on Sunday, our return may be a bit later than our usual noon arrival.

To quote Mr. Kirschner: “The hike is a loop about 10 miles in total, and the trail is rather flat with just 2-3 significant hills, so I think that all of our current scouts (including new scouts) will be able to handle it. Any adult that would like to come is also more than welcome. We will be camping near a road, so it might be possible for adults that don’t want to hike to meet us on Sat afternoon and camp, but we will be hiking some on Sun morning to get back to the cars.

“As we have said at the recent meetings, it is not necessary for anyone to buy hiking gear (unless you want to!)since our adult leaders can supply any missing items for the trip.”

Please let me or any of the adult leaders know if you have questions.

Easter Egg Hunt

Each year, the Troop supports the Bexley Parks and Recreation Department and the Bexley Celebrations Association in putting on an Easter Egg Hunt on the Saturday before Easter.

On Friday, April 2 at 6:30 PM, Scouts will meet at the Scoutmaster’s house to fill plastic Easter Eggs (1440) with jelly beans (60 pounds). We will be done by 8 PM. We’ll be working inside

On Saturday, April 3, we’ll meet at Jeffrey Mansion at 10 AM to set up and prepare for the 12 noon Easter Egg Hunt. We should be done by 12:30. Scouts need to dress for the weather that day, as we will be outside the enter time, rain or shine.

There will be a signup sheet at Monday’s meeting. If you are not at Monday’s meeting, please let me know if you are able to attend on Friday or Saturday or both.

This service event is lots of fun for Scouts. Please plan to attend if you are available.
