With only 4 Scouts confirmed for the outing, we’re going to cancel the October Outing planned for this weekend and begin focusing on our November outing. Please set aside November 12-14 for our first Annual Catapult/Pumpkin Chucking Outing.
Please be at the next meeting if at all possible to begin planning for this special event.
We’ll refund the payments of those who paid.
I am told by the Senior Patrol Leader that we are going to provide additional opportunities at each meeting for those Scouts who want to work on advancement tasks, since we’ll miss that opportunity this weekend.
See you all soon (yes I am feeling better, thank you),
Mr. Fulton

Subject: Patch Trading and The Central Ohio Trade-O-Ree
Dear Scout or Scouter
This past summer you attended the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill.
While there you probably participated in or observed one of Scouting biggest and oldest hobby.
PATCH COLLECTING
If you enjoyed trading patches, or would like to get started, or just want to learn more.
Then you need to come to our TOR (Trade-O-Ree).
There will be more than 100 tables of Scouting patches and memorabilia.
You might even be able to pick-up that one you missed at the Jambo.
If you would like to join our Venture Crew talk to myself or Rich Braessler.
Our Venture Crew Specializes in collecting and trading Scouting patches and memorabilia.
We travel to other TOR’s (Trade-O-Ree’s) as well as sponsor one of the largest TOR’s in the country each October.
Our Goal is to help each other with our collections as well as help new collectors get started.
The Central Ohio Trade-O-Ree is in less than 2 weeks

For our October outing (Friday Oct. 15 – Sunday Oct. 17) we’ll be traveling to Camp Birch near Springfield and tent camping. We’ll meet at the Church on Friday (time to be determined) and travel to the camp. On Saturday we’ll be walking in the Clifton Gorge in search of the ever-elusive piece of pie at the Inn at Clifton George.
There will be time to work on requirements, so Scouts should be sure to bring their Scout Handbook.
We’ll be outdoors all weekend, so watch the weather. Spare, dry clothes are always good idea.
On Sunday, we’ll be return to the Church at about 12:30.
The cost of the outing will be $17. Participants may want to bring some extra money for a potential trip on Saturday evening to Young’s Ice Cream.
The Scout Handbook provides a wonderful list of what should be packed for a Scout outing.
As a reminder, we travel to and from outing in our Class “A” uniform.
Please let me know if there are questions issues or concerns.

Because of scheduling and availability problems, we are forced to cancel the September outing. Please watch this space for the next event (or check our calendar at http://troop166.org/event-calendar/).
For our September outing, we’ll be traveling to lovely Lake Erie and visiting South Bass Island and Put-in-Bay.
We’ll be leaving on Friday, September 10 at 5:00 PM and traveling to East Harbor State Park where we will be camping in tents.
We will travel, as always, in Class “A” uniforms.
Our outing is scheduled to coincide with a Camporall sponsored by Troop 360 of Port Clinton. Many special activities and events are scheduled for Scouts during this weekend.
On Saturday morning, we’ll be traveling to South Bass Island to take part in several activities.
At the end of the day, we’ll be returning to the mainland to spend the night in the state park.
We will return to the Church, arriving at about 12:30 on Sunday.
The cost of the trip is $55 (camping, food, ferry, bike rental, admissions, gas reimbursement) and is payable a tthe Chruch when we leave. I’ll bring permission slips to sign also.
Scouts and adults will need the usual gear for tent camping and some spare money for the wide variety of food that is available on the island. The Scouts have tagged this as the “Pie and Ice Cream” campout.
Here is the list of Scouts that I believe to be attending:
Chris B. ??
Elija B.
Noah D.
Nick E.
Eli F.
Hayden G.
Chandler G.
Lyle P.
Nate T. ??
For our August outing, we’ll be traveling to the Lower New River in West Virginia for an afternoon of whitewater rafting.
On Friday, August 20, we’ll be leaving BUMC (time to be determined) and driving about 4 hours to Babcock Start Park (http://www.babcocksp.com/ ) near Clifftop, WV where we will be camping in tents.
We will stop along the way to eat a brown bag dinner that Scouts and adults will bring with them.
After breakfast at the campsite, we’ll travel the 30 miles to Oak Hill, WV and Ace Adventures (http://www.aceraft.com/ ), our outfitter for the trip. We’ll eat a picnic lunch at the outfitter and then spend the afternoon on the river.
Afterwards, we’ll return to the campsite for the evening.
On Sunday morning, we’ll pack up and drive back to Bexley, arriving at about 1 or 2 PM. Scouts and adults should bring cash for a snack or lunch along the way.
Scouts must be at least 11 years old and at least 56” (4’ 8”) in height.
The outfitter will be providing all equipment for rafting, including helmets and personal flotation devices which will be worn at all times on the water.
See the outfitter’s website for some good tips on what to expect (What Should I Bring? What Should I Wear? What if the Weather is Bad? – http://www.aceraft.com/faq.html ).
The cost for adults and Scouts will be $115 per person. Payment is due at or before the August 9 Troop meeting. Checks should be payable to “Troop 166”.
In addition to our troop permission slip (http://troop166.org/files/2009%20Permission%20Slip.pdf ) each participant will need to complete a release form from the outfitter (http://www.aceraft.com/PDF/Ace-Wavier-2009.pdf )

Remember that coordinating means “making sure it gets done” not “doing it”.
Please let me know if you might be able to help with an outing.
