John Fenimore – Update

Just to let you know, John is doing very well.

He went home the Tuesday after the surgery on Friday and has been steadly improving.

I spoke with him just before Christmas and he was enjoying time with his family and new granddaughter.

He’s still tires easily and is sore, but he sounds great and was focused on the progress of our current Eagle candidates on their road to Eagle.

Cards and calls and visits are welcome. Call before visiting, of course.

John Fenimore – Sunday afternoon

Chris and I stopped by briefly on Sunday afternoon to see John at Riverside.

He looks great for someone who has been through what he has this week. He was napping when we arrived, but was excited to tell us of his adventures once he work up.

He was still a little foggy from the deep, deep anesthesia used for major surgery, but he seems well on his way to a  full recovery.

He’s sitting up, taking solid food and they have him standing already. He is, of course, quite sore. We had to limit ourselves to avoid laughing (still very painful), but John was quite animated about getting back to teaching and his activities with he troop.

It’s likely that he will be home early this week. I’ll provide more details as they are available.

Get well cards are welcome.

John Fenimore – Saturday Afternoon

Jack’s update:

Dad is doing well a day after his surgery.  The family is all with him
this afternoon and he has been moved out of the ICU into a step down
unit.  The staff is very happy with his progress and he may get to go
home as early as Tuesday.  Visitors will be OK on Monday, just check
with the front desk for his location.  The hospital is emphatic about
no folks with colds, etc. Once he is home folks are welcome to visit
as well.

He can get up and sit down on his own though quite exhausted from the
operation.  All things considered he is in good spirits and already
talking about his classes for next semester though he won’t be in
person at the University for a few weeks.

Thank you for all of the well wishes.  I have passed along everything
to him from everyone.  Thanks so much!

John Fenimore – Friday afternoon

John is out of surgery and everything went well. The family will get to see in in the ICU briefly and then the family will be sent home until tomorrow morning.

John had portions of five coronary arteries replaced. “There are no bragging rights for five,” according to the surgeon. “It could just have easily have been three. It’s just the way the heart is built.”

He may be ready for visitors by Sunday. More details as they are available.

John Fenimore – Thursday evening

Update from Jack (9:30 PM Thursday):

Some updates: He will be going to the OR around 9 tomorrow and will be
out in the afternoon.  Tomorrow and Saturday will be iffy for
visitors, when we get closer to Sunday we can see about that.  Feel
free to call or text me.  Monday will probably be fine and he will
likely be discharged Tuesday.

He may be allowed to go back to teach class sometime in January, we
will have to wait and see.

Some good news is that his heart is in perfect shape, the issue is
with the arteries only.  Since this has been caught early the doctor
is expecting everything to go smoothly and in a few months he will be
back to normal.

I will let you know more tomorrow later in the day. Call or text
any time if you want, I will be at the hospital after lunch waiting
for him to come out.

John Fenimore

Our former Scoutmaster and current Troop Committee Committee Chair is not going to spending the Christmas holiday as he had planned.

As the result of a stress test yesterday and other testing today, John Fenimore will be undergoing bypass surgery tomorrow morning at Riverside hospital.

He’ll be hospitalized for a few days and have limits on his activity for 60 days or so. He’s expected to make a full recovery.

He’ll be at Riverside at least through the weekend. I’ll provide updates and information as I have it – for up-to-the-minute details contact his son Jack (614-327-5205 or jackfenimore@gmail.com).

Please keep John in your thoughts and prayers.

What’s Next

It’s a busy few days for Scouting before we take a break for the holidays.

Friday, December 9 – Planning Overnight

At 6:00 PM, please join us for our annual planning session for the coming year. The Scouts will discuss, prioritize and vote on outings for the coming year. This once-a-year opportunity gives the Scouts a chance to decide what activities that we schedule for the coming 12 months. Got something that you like, don’t like or would like to try? This is the time to bring it up.

After the planning session, we’ll spend the rest of the evening eating, playing games and hanging out. We’ll spend the night in the Fellowship Hall at church. The floors are hard (bring a sleeping bag and mat to sleep on) but it’s warm and dry – hard to find outdoors in December in Ohio.

We’ll be joined overnight by several Webelos and parents who are learning about Scouting (and looking for a Troop to join).

It will be noisy and fun.

Everyone spending the night needs a permission slip (http://troop166.org/files/2009%20Permission%20Slip.pdf).

Saturday, December 10 – Pancake Breakfast

Up early to cleanup and reset Fellowship Hall for a church event later in the day and off to the Annual Bexley Pancake Breakfast at Jeffery Mansion

We’ll transport Scouts who are working at the Pancake Breakfast (listed below)

Everyone else will need to be picked up at 8 AM at the Church.

Scouts working at the Pancake Breakfast:

First Shift 8:30 – 10:00 AM

  • Casey S.
  • Eddie R.
  • James W.
  • Peter B.
  • Michael R.
  • Liam F.
  • Nick L

 Second Shift 10:00 – 11:30 AM

  • Leland S.
  • Daniel S.
  • Casey S.
  • Nick L

We clear and reset tables and fill syrup bottles (and eat pancakes).

Monday, December 12 – Holiday Meeting

Our final Venture Crew meeting (7 PM) and Troop meeting  (7:30 PM) of the year, including the gift exchange and desserts.

 More on this soon.

Please let me know if there are questions, issues or concerns.

I hope to see you all over the next few days (at least for part of our planning session on Friday), but If I don’t: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year.
