Boys and Girls… Exercise Those Extraordinary Imaginations in the
Boy Scouts of America Innovation Challenge!

Imagine… if your invention is selected, you could:

  • See your product brought to market!
  • Be named as “Inventor” on the patent!
  • Earn royalties for the life of the patent!

Appear on the award-winning Everyday Edisons TV series!

This Challenge is open to all youth inventors – ages 7-21 – boys and girls, Scouts and non-Scouts.

Aviation Merit Badge

Below is the information that I have received about the Aviation Merit Badge program offered by the Youth Aviation Adventure program later this year.

If anyone is interested, please contact me and we will set up a coordinator and actively solicit other Scouts to take part. If no one contacts me, this is that last you will hear about this from me this year.

This is a wonderful program and lots of fun for the Scouts (and the parents who get to go along.) Scouts can earn Merit Badges at any age but connot wear them on a sash until they earn their First Class rank.

I always welcome your questions or concerns.

Registration is now open for Aviation Merit Badge on May 5th, 2012 at the OSU Airport (Don Scott Field).

The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and consists of ten stations which cover the topics discussed in the Aviation Merit Badge handbook.  Scouts will spend about twenty minutes at each station and should come prepared to discuss each station’s topic.

Troops should coordinate their registration so that each unit has a single ‘Unit Coordinator’. This person will be responsible for administering the pre-test, scoutmaster approvals and managing blue cards.

Admission to the program is $5, which is paid online when you register. Registration closes May 2nd or when full. Because most of the program is conducted indoors, it will be held regardless of weather. At the end of the program, you will have completed the requirements for your aviation merit badge. You do not need to bring a blue card to the program, we will provide them.

To register for the program go to http://www.youthaviationadventure.org and click on REGISTER NOW on the home page.  (Preregistration and prepayment are now REQUIRED).

Please read the FAQ document http://www.youthaviationadventure.org/yaa/Portals/0/GeneralDocs/Program_FAQs.pdf .

A printable flyer can be downloaded from: http://www.youthaviationadventure.org/yaa/Portals/0/GeneralDocs/YAA-FlyerMay2012.pdf .

Help thank BUMC for proving a home and and organizational sponsorship of our Troop (9AM and 11AM)

  •  Friday Feb. 17th – Pie and Ice Cream outing at Camp Birch

Sleep in a cabin, hike Clifton Gorge, work on advancement tasks, stay warm by the file, eat great food (not necessarily in that order) . Returning Sunday Feb. 19th

  •  Thursday, Feb. 23 – Pack 166 Blue and Gold Banquet

Participate in the crossover and welcoming of our newest Scouts

  • Monday Feb 27 – Board of Review for Rank Advancement (tentative)

Are you ready? If not, what’s holding you back?

All that in addition to our regular weekly Troop meetings on the 6th, 13th and 27th (no Troop meeting on Presidents Day, Feb. 20)

More details on all this soon, but if you have questions – please ask.

Cruelest month? This could be the best month for Scouting in a while.

January Outing

It’s been a few weeks since out last outing, but it’s time to get back in the swing of things with Winter Fun.

We’ll be attending the Glacier Ridge 2012 Klondike Derby at the Beaumont Scout Reservation, near Rock Creek, Ohio.

We’ll meet at the church at 5:30 PM on Friday January 27, and plan to get underway at 6:00.

Please eat dinner before we leave as we will only be stopping for bathroom breaks along the way.

It’s about 3 1/2 hours to our destination in the northeast corner of Ohio.

We will be cabin camping at Beaumont so, we do not need tents. We are not sure how warm the cabin will be so bring a warm sleeping bag and at least one additional set of clothes.

We will be outside all day on Saturday, participating in Klondike Events, so dress warm.

How to dress warm? Some ideas at the two links below:

We’ll return a little after noon on Sunday.

Who is attending:

  • Matthew B
  • Chris B
  • Nick E
  • Liam F
  • Bryden G
  • Chandler G
  • Nick L
  • Daniel L
  • Lyle P
  • Eddie R

Cost of the outing is $35.

Please let me know if there are questions. If you do not have long underwear or ski pants or boots, this weekend is the perfect time to shop.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Fulton

The “teenage brain”

Last October’s National Geographic contained a very interesting article on recent research concerning the “teenage brain.”

Since it’s a topic that many of us are interested in, I’ve provided a link: http://goo.gl/hgB7z

Thanks, Mr. Bardwell.
