July 4th is the celebration of our country’s birthday and one of the busiest days in Scouting for Troop 166. The parade for Scouts and adults kicks off at 9:30 (we gather at 9). We lead the parade, handing out U.S. flags to the crowd. In the evening we cook hotdogs and hamburgers and sell them to the crowds as they gather for the fireworks. It’s a big day of service and fundraising. Also, for adults and older Scouts available before the parade, we appreciate your assistance with Parade Marshaling !

If you’re a Scout, you want to take part in the Parade and Cookout !!  Adults, come join the fun.

Sign up here for the Parade and the cookout (adults and Scouts): http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040e4cada62eab9-20158
Scouts earn service hours for marshaling and for the parade. Scouts can choose to earn service hours or money for their Scout account for the cookout.

In order for our July 4th cook-out to be successful, we need each Scout family to donate 24 cans (2 twelve-packs) of soda.  What we need is listed in the sign-up (click below).  Please sign up for 2 twelve-packs and then drop them off at the Bruegge-Fulton home on July 1 to July 3.

The Bruegge-Fulton household is 49 N. Merkle Rd (between Broad and Denver). Drop off inside of the enclosed back porch at the rear of the house. Soda can be dropped off on the back porch at any time on July 1 to July 3.  The porch is covered. Soda can be left on the floor just inside of the door.

Please note that each choice is for 12 cans.  Please choose 2 items.

Monday, May 11, 7:30 to 9:00 PM: Troop Meeting @ Church
Friday, May 15, 6:00pm – Sunday, May 17 noon: Giant Capture the Flag outing and campout at Chief Logan Scout Reservation

Important: the Scouts have changed the May outing to a Giant Capture the Flag outing and campout. Same weekend (May 15-17).

May outing is now going to be a Giant game of Capture the Flag!

Recipe is for tent camping and Scout skills, mixed in with FUN.

We’ll be going to Chief Logan Scout Reservation — a beautiful property due South past Chillicothe.

As usual, travel back and forth in Class A uniforms and bring other clothes appropriate to the weather. (Extra warm layers for morning and late evening. Rain gear. Spare wool socks. No cotton. Water bottle and day pack to carry during the adventure!) We will be tent camping and outside all weekend. Scouts share tents and can arrange tent mates with their patrol.

We will cook in patrols. Siblings will be part of the Adult Patrol, and we are looking for an Adult Patrol Chef!

Leave from Bexley United Methodist Church at 6 pm on Friday

Cost will be $15 per attendee for both Scouts and Adults.

Return to Church around Noon on Sunday.

Click HERE to download a permission slip.

*Note: we ask that you sign up at least a week in advance. If you have to cancel during the last week, we respectfully ask that you still pay for the outing. By this time, the Troop has incurred the per-attendee cost of the location and your fellow Scouts have purchased food.

Monday, May 18, 7:30 to 9:00 PM: Troop Meeting and Troop Committee Meeting @ Church. Troop Committee is in Room 5

Monday, May 25: No Meeting (no school in Bexley)

Community Service Opportunities

Two service opportunities are upcoming that may be of interest.

They will not be Scout Troop events, so parents will need to coordinate transportation and supervision, but the Troop will award service hours to those taking part in these community events.

Please let me know if you have questions about Troop Involvement or service hours. Follow the contact information directions for information about the events.

Bexley Public Library – Friends of the Library Book Sale

3/22/15
I’m reaching out to the BSA and Girl Scout troops in Bexley to see if anyone is interested in service hours.

I am coordinating volunteers for the Friends of the Bexley Public Library Book Sale this spring.

We need to move more than a thousand books from one room to another and then move them out of the library after the sale.

The BHS Key Club helped a lot last fall.  I’m hoping to get some scouts out this spring.

We need volunteers on Sunday, April 26 from 12:30 to 3:30 and on Sunday, May 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  We are taking volunteers for other days on our membership sign up form: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b4aa9aa28a0f94-spring1.  But our greatest need is at set up and clean up because our members are mostly retired and this is very hard work for our membership.  Without the students help, this work takes us many days!

We usually offer two books to the volunteers to thank them for helping out.

I will be on site to coordinate everything.  (I have my Youth Protection training.)  I can sign off on their hours.

Thank you for considering!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Sign Up Now for Easter Egg Hunt!

Click here to sign up for Easter Egg Hunt: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/9040E4CADA62EAB9-20154

On the Saturday before Easter (this year on April 4) we assist the Bexley Recreation and Parks Department to conduct the annual Easter Egg Hunt. We gather (in uniform) at 10 AM to set up the field and hide the eggs. We assist with marshaling the crowds and then do cleanup after the event. We’ll also need adults (parents and uniformed leaders) to supervise. The Easter Egg Hunt goes on rain or shine, so watch the weather to determine how warmly to dress or if rain gear is needed.

Scouts earn service hours for their time helping with the event.

DATE: 4/4/2015 (Sat 10:00AM – 12:30PM)

LOCATION: Jeffrey Park

Please let me know if there are questions or concerns.
