For our March outing we will be returning to Camp Birch, located between Dayton and Springfield. We ‘ll be leaving on Friday, March 9 (meeting at the Church at 6PM) and traveling to the camp that evening. We will be staying in a cabin, which has a wood stove for heat.
On Saturday, we’ll be going out in an open field closeby to shoot off rockets that we will build in the Troop meeting on Monday night. There should also be time for a hike and some advancement tasks.
On Saturday night we may be able to go to Young’s for a bit of the ice cream for which they are so justifibly famous.
We’ll return on Sunday, arriving back at the Church around noon.
Scouts need a sleeping bag, a cup, spoon, and bowl, a change of clothes and personal gear.
The Boy Scout Handbook provides gear lists for camping and for outings. There is an extensive, indexed FAQ on the Troop website that addresses many aspects of Scouting and answers many questions (http://troop166.org/FAQ).
Other Scouts and adults often have gear that you can borrow if you need something that you don’t have.
We will be traveling in Class “A” uniforms. This includes Scout shirt, pants, belt and socks.
Watch the weather forecasts for next weekend and dress for being outside all day on Saturday. It’s more difficult to have fun if you are wet or cold.
Do not bring food or snacks, as we cook together as a troop. If Scouts have strong food preferences or dislikes, they need to be addressed in the planning for the outing. The Scouts plan their own menus, shop for food and cook their own meals.
Please let me know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
Personal electronics, cell phones, and electronic games should be left at home. This is a time for being unplugged. Adults have cell phones for emergencies.
The cost for youth is $30. Please bring some extra money for Young’s on Saturday evening.
A permission form is available on the website (http://troop166.org/web-forms/) and I will have copies in the parking lot.
I will also need adults to drive and to supervise. Adults are always welcome and encouraged to come and observe.
Please let me know if there are questions or concerns .
