ISLAND CAMPFIRE

After spending a week out on a deserted island in the heat, nothing sounds like more fun before returning to civilization and A/C than a good, old-fashioned campfire!!

We started out with  pot-luck dinner, in which all 6 crews from our group (shout out to Somers (NY), NC, and VA!) cooked as much remaining food as possible, which we all shared.  Can’t get any better than that, particularly if you like your carbs!

I’ll bet you didn’t know that spaghetti, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and corn went so well together!

Next, it was time for the cobbler cook-off.  This was another opportunity to get rid of any uneaten food (preferably of the sweet variety), since anything left had to be carried back to the main land.  Each of the cobbers was made with a base of 7 lbs of cherry filling and a vanilla cake (Ugh!), but there was still room for plenty of variety. Note the award winning Troop 166 cobbler, conceived of  by our awesome Island Mate, Dustin!

How much cherry cobbler can YOU eat???

After everyone had stuffed him/herself full (and I do mean full), it was time to retired back to the campsites, capture a high-speed racing hermit crab, and enjoy the tomfoolery.  I won’t give any detail (some things just have to be experienced) .

Hermit crab racing!
