On the weekend of Tax Day (April 15 – 17) we’ll be undertaking the Troop’s first Zip-lining Outing.

On Friday at 5:30 we’ll be meeting at the Church. At 6 PM we’ll be leaving the Church and traveling to Caesar Creek State Park near Waynesville, OH to spend the night. We will be camping in tents.

On Saturday morning, we’ll be traveling to Ozone Zipline Adventures at YMCA Camp Kern, Oregonia, OH (near Dayton) and taking part in our scheduled zip-lining activities.

  • We recommend that guests wear layered clothing. Please remove all hanging jewelry prior to the tour.
  • Sunglasses are taken at your own risk and a strap is recommended.

Outdoor Health and Fitness Expo

2011 marks the beginning of the “Fit For Scouting” initiative which will help Scouts and their families learn and enjoy the benefits of physical fitness and healthy living.  The goal of this program is to introduce and educate our Scouts, their families and our communities about the many ways in which healthy living can be incorporated into daily life.  The program will officially be kicked off on May 7 at Camp Lazarus with the Outdoor Health and Fitness Expo.  The expo will be full of interactive activities and stations that will allow Scouts and their families to experience different methods of healthy living.  The attached form has much more information on the Expo.

-The expo will take place from 9:00am-4:00pm and will include inflatables, geocaching, a family hike, high adventure activities, programs with Columbus’ sports teams and many other activities which will be promoting physical fitness and healthy living.

-Runners can also sign up for a 5k trail run that will start at 8:00am.

-Event attendees will have the opportunity to meet Olympic Gold Medalist Butch Reynolds and Heisman Trophy Winner Eddie George from Ohio State.

“New” Parent Orientation

On Monday, April 4 during the weekly Troop meeting (starting at 7:30) we’ll provide an opportunity for the parents of newer Scouts to learn about the Troop and to have any questions that they may have answered.

We’ll also review the plans for upcoming outings and the opportunities for your Scout to advance this summer at Summer Camp.

If you are a new Scout parent or if you have any questions about the program, please join us while your son is engaged in the Troop meeting.

Summer Camp

Parents,

Scout camp will be Sunday, June 26th through Saturday, July 2nd.  We typically leave the church around 1 or 2 pm on Sunday and return around 11 am on Saturday.

Everything that you always wanted to know about Summer Camp” is available as a downloadable/printable document.

The two important pieces of information in the attached document are:

  1. If you have not already, please get me your deposit of $25 ASAP. (You can drop it off at my house) or bring it on the 28th.  Thank you to all of you who have already done so.
  2. Scout medical forms are good for 1 year only.  It is best to schedule your annual physical now so that you have it when it is time to leave for camp.  Forms can be found at: http://www.skcbsa.org/documents/wholehealthform-A-D_002.pdf

Thank you for your support.

Summer camp is a great time for everyone involved.  It is an experience which your boys will remember for a long time.

Summer Camp

It is time to start planning for our summer camp extravaganza. We will be heading to Camp Falling Rock in Newark, OH. We are leaving on Sunday, June 26, early afternoon and returning on Saturday, July 2, late morning.

Summer camp is a great place to experience scouting. First time campers are encouraged to attend Brownsea Adventure where they can work on a majority of their requirements towards First Class rank. Returning campers have the opportunity to work on merit badges. Some merit badges are best worked on at camp (like swimming, canoeing, fishing, boating). First time campers will also earn several merit badges during the Brownsea Adventure.

At this time, I am asking scouts to let me know if they intend to attend camp this summer. The fee for camp this summer will be: $220 if paid to me by April 28th and $240 after that date. Those scouts who will be attending, I will need a $25 deposit by Monday, March 7th. Checks can be made out to Troop 166.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call me or Mr. Fulton. I can be reached at 614-252-8720 or evelyn.kirschner.85@alumni.brown.edu.

I am looking forward to a great time.

Scout Sunday

Please set aside the morning of Sunday, February 13 for a special family Scouting event.

For 51 weeks each year, Bexley United Methodist Church (BUMC) provides the Troop with a home – a meeting room, utilities, and janitorial services to mention the most obvious.

Once each year the Church is asked to be our Chartering Organization – to take responsibility for us and to stand behind our program and choices and activities for the year. Without a Chartering Organization, there would be no Troop.

Once each year, the Church asks that we show our support for the Church by participating in services on one day, Scout Sunday.

For the past couple of years, we have had very few Scouts attend.

This year Scout Sunday is on Sunday, February 13. We have been asked to participate in both the 9:00 AM and the 11:00 AM services.

A sign-up sheet will be at the two Troop meetings between now and Scout Sunday.

Families and Scouts are encouraged to attend. Scouts will be wearing their Class “A” uniform.

What if I’m not a member of BUMC? What if I’m not Methodist?

Not a problem. You are not being asked to join the church, only to show your support for the Troop and for the Church which makes the existence of the Troop possible.

Please join me on Sunday, February 13 for both services as we say “Thank You” to BUMC for their continuing support.

Please let me know if you have questions.

February Troop Outing

On Saturday morning, February 12, we’ll be heading to Snow Trails at Mansfield for a special Scout Day at the facility.

It’s a one-day outing, so while we need to “Be Prepared” we only need to be prepared for travel, eating and having fun on the slopes.

We’ll meet at the Church early on Saturday morning at 8:00 AM.

The cost for the outing will be $49 + 3 = $52.

$49 covers the morning of skiing, equipment rental, a lesson and a light lunch.

Tubing alone (no lunch) is $25 + $3 = $28.

We add $3 to help remiburse adults for gas.

Here is the flyer for the Heart of Ohio Council and Snow Trails.

Scouts should bring money to buy more lunch at Snow Trails if desired.

We’ll also needs adults to drive and  attend and share in the fun.

Please let me know if you have questions.
