Fishing

(One of our favorite activities!)

It was clear from the outset that William, with the goofy hat, was the most experienced fisherman on the trip.  Of course, this meant that he hardly caught anything!

Both of these photos were taken at our camp on Lake Kawaseecheewonk, where we spent two nights in total.  We actually had a lot of bites from this spot, but the rocky bottom of the lakes make hauling them in a little more difficult.

Just a bit further south from there was the so-called Four Corners region, which had a beautiful campsite. Unfortunately, the camp was closed down because of bears in the area. Nonetheless, we stopped there for lunch and some fishing.  We heard that everyone that went fishing there had great luck.  We had…… great scenery!

We didn’t do it too much, but we also tried on a few occasions fishing directly out of the canoes. Seemed to work pretty well in this spot!

For the hybrid approach, some of the crew took the canoes out to some of the small rocks and fished from there.  Like many of our other fishing locations, the luck was kind of spotty. This photo is from Lake David, our camp on the first night.

Overall, we caught a couple of pike, but no walleye.  We heard that the fishing was better on the more remote areas, so we probably would have had better luck on the more remote lakes….maybe next time!

Of course, once you catch ’em , then you gotta eat ’em.  Before that, you gotta clean ’em, which no one on our crew had ever done before!  We had the rule that the successful fisherman was responsible for cleaning his own fish.  Needless to say, it was an interesting experience, full of savage brutality..

But, as in many things, to the victor goes the spoils.  Here is Matt’s delicious dinner for the evening (even better than the chili-mac!)

All kidding aside–it was really good!!!
