The Duct Tape Page!
(Duct tape–don’t leave home without it!)
As any experienced Scout can tell you, duct tape has many important uses on the trail.
As shown at above, it is very good for patching up small holes in your tent. For example, this hole was made when the tent wasn’t staked down well, and the whole set-up was blown over onto a pile of sharp rocks and sticks. After some duct tape–good as new!
Duct tape can also be used for smaller fix-ups, too. In this case, we had broken our last bottle of PolarPure (TM) water purifier, and were stuck on how we were going to drink the rest of the trip. Thanks to some quick thinking and a little MacGyver-like ingenuity, we were able to salvage most of the iodine-containing beads and place them in an old spice container, rigged with duct tape to keep it (mostly) water tight. Of course, that did leave some spices to get rid of, which we did in the most environment-friendly way we could think of: eating it out of Matt’s hand. Has the tongue stopped burning yet, Matt?
For those of you who didn’t know, duct tape can not only be used for fixing stuff, why it can be used for MAKING stuff. For example, if your boot falls apart because it has been wet for 5-6 days, you can just make a new one! (Additional note: if you don’t want this to happen to you, don’t buy the cheapest boots you can find! We had a lot of trouble with them)
